USAG Ansbach preps for annual community showcase

ANSBACH, Germany (Aug. 6, 2019) – Each year, as summer ends, U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach comes together to exhibit the abundant organizations and services during the annual community showcase.

The showcase allows new community members, as well as residents, to get information from each organization as well as learn about new services and receive updates for existing services, clubs and organizations.

This year the showcase will take place Aug. 24 at the Katterbach Fitness Center from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

In conjunction with the showcase, a “Sportin’ the Home Team” fun run will start at 10 a.m. on site. The run is open to all USAG Ansbach community members. Registration for the run begins at 9 a.m. until 10 minutes before the race. Routes include both a 3K and 5K loop; runners 16 years and older are eligible to run the 5K, youth 9 to 15 years of age and adult walkers are eligible to participate in the 3K; all children 8 years of age and younger must participate with a parent. Participants who wear their favorite hometown team apparel will have a chance to win a team pride prize drawing! Strollers and pets on leashes are allowed during the adult run.

The Katterbach Fitness Center provides enough space for the many different directorates available to community members. Representatives from Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Army Community Service, the Auto Skills Center, Outdoor Recreation, and many more will be on site.

Additionally, there will be private organizations available to community members. The Ansbach Spouses and Civilian Club and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, will be co-located with the banking organizations, the Veterinarian Treatment Facility and health clinics, as well as Religious Services, the self-help store, the Environmental Division and the Housing Office. The Army Substance Abuse program is offering advice about the influence of alcohol and illegal substances.

Child & Youth Services will be available for parents to get information about fall sports and other activities and services offered.

The German-American Friendship Club “Outreach-KONTAKT Franken” will talk about the club’s activities and upcoming events.

Representatives from the Ansbach tourist offices will pass on information about the region, and upcoming events or guided tours.

Attendees can also enter to win door prizes, including two weekend stays for two at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch!

While the community showcase is mostly designed for Soldiers, Civilians and Family members new to the community, current residents will find plenty of useful information and chances to catch up and reconnect with organizations and services after the long summer break.
