USAG Ansbach held town hall to discuss family housing concerns

Ansbach, Germany (Feb. 27, 2019) ─ As part of an ongoing Army-wide effort to resolve unsatisfactory conditions in Army family housing, 7th Army Training Command (7th ATC) and U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach’s leadership held a town hall Feb. 25, 2019 to provide information and gain feedback from community members on housing concerns.

Col. William R. Glaser and Command Sgt. Maj. William L. Gardner, representing the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) Brig. Gen. Christopher C. LaNeve from 7th ATC, were joined by Col. Steven M. Pierce, USAG Ansbach garrison commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Philson Tavernier.  This town hall was an internal forum for leaders to personally connect with Soldiers, Army families and other residents of the Ansbach community to help ensure they are meeting their obligations to provide safe, quality family housing.

In a recent statement, Secretary of the Army Dr. Mark Esper stated, “We are deeply troubled by the recent reports highlighting the deficient conditions in some of our family housing. It is unacceptable for our families who sacrifice so much to have to endure these hardships in their own homes. Our most sacred obligation as Army leaders is to take care of our people – our Soldiers and our family members.”

During the Ansbach town hall, the nearly 160 attending community members had the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns about their personal housing situation. The garrison commander and his staff, which included chiefs of the Ansbach Directorate  of Public Works and the Housing Office, pledged to address individual concerns and review the work order process.

Col. Pierce discussed the work order process and told the community he and the command sergeant major would address issues immediately. “Soldiers and their families are at the heart of everything our garrisons do. We will closely monitor corrective actions from work order submission through completion,” he said.

He said chains of command would begin inspections and visits to installation housing areas. He pledged to remediate life, health and safety issues immediately and assured Soldiers and families that Army leaders are committed to providing a safe and secure living environment.
