Ansbach, Germany – The annual Retiree Appreciation Day (RAD) for USAG Ansbach is scheduled to take place Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Von Steuben Community Center on Bismarck Kaserne.
The intent of RAD is to support the retirees – both Soldiers and civilian retirees -, spouses and widows of retirees, living in Ansbach and surrounding communities. Retirees can learn about changes in their retirement rights, benefits and privileges, and take advantage of on-the-spot services. New this year will be a visit of a representative from the Federal Benefit Unit of the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt.
The event will be kicked off at 10 a.m. with a presentation of several representatives of retiree organizations, like the local retiree council or the Army in Europe Retired Soldier Council (AERSC); special guest speaker will be Mr. Mark Overberg, Director of Retirement Services, Pentagon.
After the presentations, representatives of many different organizations will be available at their stations to individually advise the customers. Organizations scheduled to be present include the Health & Dental Clinic, TRICARE, Foreign Medical Program, Veterans Affairs, Legal Services & Customs, Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS), Banking Facilities, U.S. Consulate Munich, Federal Benefit Unit – U.S. Consulate Frankfurt, FMWR & Army Community Service, Retiree Council Europe, VFW & American Legion, Local Retiree Council and the American Red Cross.
Attendees can meet one-on-one with a representative from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service to address any questions with retirement and annuity payments. Retirees will be able to modify contact information, banking and payment details, allotments and beneficiary information. Nearly all requests and changes will be enacted immediately and on-site through the DFAS representative. Also in attendance will be representatives from the Federal Benefits Unit and Veterans Affairs as well as MEDDAC Bavaria Health and Dental Clinic personnel. Retirees should show up with all information, applicable records and paperwork to make any required changes, such as bank account and routing numbers, social security numbers and mailing addresses with postal codes. Retirees should also bring several forms of identification and their residency permit for other services (customs certificates, etc.).
Please note that access to Bismarck Kaserne is only possible via Katterbach Main Gate; event signs point toward the cross-over gates. Bismarck Kaserne cannot be entered from Bundesstrasse B14 directly.
