Twenty community volunteers came together Nov. 20 to plant flower bulbs on 12 prepared plots on Bismarck/Katterbach and Urlas.
The mission was to beautify the garrison by planting spring blooming flower bulbs like daffodils, crocuses and tulips.
Planting began at 8:30 a.m., with the volunteers splitting off into four teams of gardeners armed with shovels, planting sticks, rakes and the flower bulbs.
The objective was to get about 7,000 flower bulbs into the grounds by the end of the day.
“All the volunteers were highly motivated,” said Juergen Stoehr, Garrison Natural Resources Manager. “With great zeal and determination accomplished the mission before high-noon.”
Everybody was happy and content with their efforts, and the weather was just perfect, not too cold but dry without any wind, added Stoehr
Directorate of Public Work Environmental Management Division organized refreshments like water, coffee and doughnuts for extra motivation.
At the end of the planting, Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Eric Bohannon thanked all of the dedicated volunteers on behalf of the Garrison.
Their efforts will certainly help make USAG Ansbach a little bit more aesthetically pleasing.
