Ansbach Retiree Appreciation Day 2017

ANSBACH, Germany — More than 200 military retirees were honored at the United States Army Garrison Ansbach’s Retiree Appreciation Day held Oct. 26 at the Katterbach Fitness Center on Katterbach Kaserne.

The garrison holds the event once a year to thank retirees for the service they have provided to the country in wars – both hot and cold – and to offer an opportunity for retirees to easily access many of the community services at one location. It’s also an opportunity for the garrison commander to greet and recognize the retirees and veterans residing in and around the Ansbach region.

All retirees, their dependents and surviving spouses are invited and welcome to attend the annual event.

“We in the Ansbach Garrison are very proud and honored to serve our military retirees, and I encourage all of you attending today to keep checking our website and your association newsletter for updates and availability of our services.” said USAG Ansbach Commander Col. Benjamin Jones in his remarks opening the all-day event.

“We focus on providing information and access to the services that interest military retirees most and address their specific needs, such as healthcare, facility access and ID card renewal, medical and dental screenings, Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) questions concerning retirement and annuity payments, contact information, transfer and payment details, allotments and changing beneficiary information, changing Veterans Administration (VA) policies and information ranging from benefits to legal assistance,” said Jones.

This year approximately 2,000 military retirees currently fall under the Ansbach community regional footprint. Event keynote guest speaker was Mr. David Fulton, president of the Army in Europe Retired Soldier Council and team leader for the Chief of Staff, Army (CSA) Retired Soldier Council.

Among the many participating agencies on hand to assist retirees was Ansbach Health and Dental Clinic, the local Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP), DFAS, SOS, the local education center, the Ansbach chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion, Service Credit Union and Community Bank, as well as giveaways and information provided by the Ansbach Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) program.

Retiree Day organizers are reviewing the many comments and suggestions made by participants and staff to see how they can improve next year’s event. Retiree Appreciation Day events are now being held annually at all U.S. Army Europe garrisons.
