Ansbach garrison commander welcomes host nation guests at delayed reception

ANSBACH, Germany – When Garrison Commander Col. Karen E. Hobart took command from the outgoing commander Col. Steven M. Pierce in July, the ceremony was held under the strict COVID-19 guidelines in place at the time, which meant there was no traditional welcome reception with host nation guests.

The garrison made up for the postponed event Sept. 18 and hosted a small outdoor gathering with selected local officials and U.S. guests at the Von Steuben Community Activity Center.

The U.S. Army Europe Jazz Combo from Sembach, known as “The Standard”, provided the musical entertainment for the event.

After welcoming her guests with a few sentences in almost flawless German, Hobart expressed her desire to continue the ongoing partnerships and friendships with the surrounding German communities and local authorities.

“We here at USAG Ansbach are committed to an open and friendly relationship with our German partners. We believe that many potential problems can be solved with an open dialogue,” Hobart said. “We look forward to continuing to build our community relations.”

When the highest-ranking attending German official, Dr. Johannes Urban from the Bavarian State Chancellery in Munich, finished his remarks, Hobart closed with an assuring sentence to the host nation guests: “We stand side by side, should to shoulder, with you.”
