Ansbach community observes National Day of Prayer

Ansbach, Germany –The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday in May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. The USAG Ansbach Religious Support Office hosted a luncheon for the community to gather for an hour of prayer May 2, 2019, at the Von Steuben Community Center.

“The Army places a high value on the rights of its Soldiers to observe the tenets of their respective religion or to observe no religion at all. The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans. It is a day that transcends differences, bringing together citizens from all backgrounds, “said Col. Steven Pierce, USAG Ansbach commander, in his opening remarks. “The National Day of Prayer has great significance for us as a nation as it enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions. Therefore, the purpose is to have a broad representation from all faiths with a clear focus on praying for the nation.”

Chaplains serving the Ansbach and Storck community then took turns leading the audience in a series of prayers, including prayers for unity, the nation, families and community.

Guest speaker was the Most Reverend Richard Spencer, Roman Catholic Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese, Military Services, USA and Episcopal Vicar for Europe and Asia. Reverend Spencer engaged his audience with a mental exercise, demonstrating an innovative approach to “how we can creatively attune ourselves for the needs of others” and “turn prayer into a conversation with who you call the Almighty.”
