TRIVIA NIGHT

Show off your knowledge of a variety of random facts and arcane trivia at the Von Steuben Community Center Thursday, Oct. 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. Win bragging rights and prizes for correctly answering the most questions.


SATO OFFICE CLOSURES

The Ansbach SATO Office is closing at 2 p.m. Oct. 7, and will close at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, due to unexpected circumstances.

LIMITED HOURS AT LEGAL ASSISTANCE

The Legal Assistance and Claims Office will have limited hours Oct. 8. There will be no notary available. HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

The Hispanic Heritage Month observance takes place Oct. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Von Steuben Community Center. There will be music and Hispanic cultural dishes from around the world.


GARRISON ORG DAY

USAG Ansbach Garrison will hold an organizational day Oct. 15 starting at 9:15 a.m. on Barton Barracks, Ansbach to develop unit cohesion and build morale.  Garrison directorates will compete in numerous event such as soccer, tug-of-war, Hammerschlagen, trivia, pumpkin carving, corn hole and other events. Garrison services will be limited.


FISHING COURSE

ANNUAL FLU SHOT DRIVES

US Army Health Clinic Ansbach will be offering flu vaccines to the community.

  • 15 Oct. (11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) Child Youth Services at CYS gym; target population: enrolled CYS kids and staff
  • 18 Oct. (8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) Elementary (a.m.) and High School (p.m.); target population: enrolled students and staff

TOTAL ARMY SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Ansbach ACS is offering Total Army Sponsorship Program (TASP) training Oct. 19 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Von Steuben Community Center. Learn what incoming personnel need to know before arrival, identify newcomers’ resources and connect with support agencies.


VEHICLE REG CLOSURE

The Vehicle Registration Office will remain closed Friday, Oct. 15, to attend the garrison organizational day.


BOSS HAUNTED HOUSE – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The BOSS program is looking for volunteers to assist with their haunted house. This information strictly pertains to finding volunteers. The Haunted House will take place on the following dates: Oct. 23, 24, 29 and 30.


CPR/FIRST AID CLASSES – AMERICAN RED CROSS

The Ansbach Red Cross is holding CPR/First Aid/AED training Oct. 6 and 27 at 6 p.m. in the ACS classroom. For more information call 09802-831760.


ART CHALLENGE – DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Family Advocacy is hosting a community Art Challenge on “What is Love”. The entries can be painting, drawing or photography. Entries are due to ACS or the Family Advocacy Program office by Oct. 6. The best entries will be displayed in the Exchange from Oct. 15-30. All entries must be original works  by the participants. NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION

Ansbach Army Community Service (ACS) is hosting monthly Spouse/Family Member Newcomers Orientations on the first Monday of each month. The events will be held 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Von Steuben Community Center on Bismarck Kaserne, and will consist of a briefer lineup from various agencies looking to orient newcomers to the installation. ACS cannot provide childcare at this time, however, children are welcome to attend. RSVP is required.


BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Katterbach Fitness Center is hosting a ‘Think Pink’ fitness event with resources on women’s health and fitness demonstrations Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.


RETIREE APPRECIATION DAY

The annual Retiree Appreciation Day for military retirees takes place at the Katterbach Fitness Center Thursday, Oct. 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.


DATE NIGHT WITH ACS

The Family Advocacy Program is sponsoring a free movie night for couples Oct. 29 at the Sadowski Theater on Bismarck Kaserne. Pre-registration is required due to space limitations. Call 09802-83-7777 to register.


MONSTER MASH DASH

Calling all Monsters, Witches, Ghosts & Goblins! It’s time to lace up, don your spookiest costumes and join the Katterbach Fitness Center for a Halloween- themed fun run and walk 5K & Little Monsters 3K route. The event takes place Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. Strollers and pets (on leash) welcome!

There will be awards for the best times and costumes: Best family costume, best pet costume, best youth costume, best adult costume.


USPS TEMPORARY RATE INCREASE

The United States Postal Service will initiate a temporary rate increase, effective from Oct. 3 through Dec. 25, 2021. In preparation for the upcoming holiday surge, the USPS has announced a temporary increase to its postal rates.  The increases were established to accommodate seasonal staffing and increased transportation requirements.   These temporary increases are consistent with previous holiday shipping seasons. The increases that will affect our customers at the retail counter are listed below:

Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, Parcel Select Ground, USPS Retail Ground:

  • $0.75 increase for Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express Flat Rate Boxes and Envelopes.
  • $0.25 increase for Zones 1-4, 0-10 lbs.
  • $0.75 increase for Zones 5-9, 0-10 lbs.
  • $1.50 increase for Zones 1-4, 11-20 lbs.
  • $3.00 increase for Zones 5-9, 11-20lbs.
  • $2.50 increase for Zones 1-4, 21-70 lbs.
  • $5.00 increase for Zones 5-9, 21-70 lbs.

First Class Package Service (FCPS) will increase $0.30.


ENERGY ACTION MONTH

October is National Energy Action Month, a time to raise awareness about energy resilience, efficiency, water conservation, and to drive behavior change. “ Power To Win” is the Army’s theme for 2020. The theme reflects the critical importance of installation, operational energy, and water resilience to Army readiness. During October, it is everyone’s responsibility to become energy aware, and to apply this awareness throughout the year. We urge the entire community to remain mindful of energy use, reduce consumption and promote energy awareness. Be on the lookout for energy awareness reminders and helpful tips in these community notes and throughout the Garrison during the month.


COMMISSARY OFFERS CKLICK2GO

The Defense Commissary Agency’s new online ordering/curbside delivery service at the Ansbach Commissary has started. Customers use a computer or mobile device to make their orders online, where they select from commissary products offered based on the store’s stock assortment. After products are selected, the shopper selects a pickup time and pays for their order. At their appointed time they park in designated parking spaces where commissary workers bring their groceries.
