Winter Dreams at Faber-Castell Castle in Stein
A seasonal market with entertainment and winter themed activities takes place at the castle park in Stein Nov. 13 through 15. Gourmets can sample European delicatessen, a winter wonderland inspires decoration for the holidays. The Faber-Castell castle is located along B14 in Stein (entrance on Rednitzstraße 2a). Magical November – Schwabach
Schwabach is hosting a magical event called “Novemberzauber” on Nov. 14 and 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days in the vicinity of the old synagogue (Synagogengasse 6) with arts and crafts displays, live music, and lots of food and beverages.

Indian Light Fest celebrated in Fürth
Diwali, the Indian Light Fest, is celebrated in Fürth in the Grüne Halle (Krautheimerstraße 11) on Nov. 14 from noon to 8 p.m. Visitors can experience the colors, scents, culinary delicacies, music and dance from India, as well as Henna painting, Ayurveda massages and much more. Frankonia Open Sled Dog Race in Lauf/Schönberg
The Bavarian championship of sled dog races called Frankonia Open takes place on Nov. 14 and 15 in Schöneberg near Lauf. Races and other events start on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and are continued on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Vendors sell animal accessories and food and beverages. Adventsmarkt in Bad Windsheim
Bad Windsheim is hosting a pre-seasonal advent market in the Kur & Kongress-Center (KKC on Erkenbrechtallee 2, next to the spa) on Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can find home-made seasonal products, Christmas decoration, jewelry, pottery, candles or wood carvings, and get in the mood for the holidays with seasonal music, St. Nikolaus and other entertainment. Nativity Scenes in Handwerkerhof Nürnberg
Old Nürnberg crafts tradition can be admired in the Nürnberger Handwerkerhof (Königstor, next to the big tower across from the Hauptbahnhof) from Nov. 18 through Dec. 30 when the nativity scene exhibition is once again opened for the season. Small stores and craft shops offer toys, decorations and much more, while typical Franconian restaurants open their doors to the hungry visitors. Adventsmarkt – Muhr am See
Muhr at the Altmühlsee presents a traditional advent market on Nov. 21 and 22; opening hours on Saturday are 4 – 8 p.m. and on Sunday 1 – 7 p.m. Vendors and clubs are selling traditional Christmas products, wood carvings, ceramic items or nativity scenes. Mineral Days in Nürnberg
A sale exhibition for jewelry, gems, pearls, minerals and fossils takes place at the Meistersingerhalle (Kleiner Saal) on Münchner Str. 21 in Nürnberg on Nov. 21 and 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors can have their gems identified at no cost, children can paint like Da Vinci, polish gems or take part in an archeological dig. The public ice skating rink on Marktplatz (between Paulibrunnen and Palais Stutterheim) in Erlangen opens on Nov. 21; the rink, located near the Christmas market, is open daily until Dec. 26. Sleep-over at the Nürnberg Zoo
Children between 8 and 12 years can roll out their sleeping bag in front of the panorama windows and watch dolphins, manatees and sea lions as they go to sleep.
