ANSBACH, Germany (Feb. 12, 2016) — Twenty-five participants from Volkshochschule Ansbach embarked on a bus tour Feb. 12 that traversed Katterbach Kaserne and Urlas Housing.

Participants from Volkshochschule Ansbach, which is among thousands of other similar institutions of adult education throughout Germany, started taking tours in 2014 with about three to four tours a year.

Bianca Sowders, public affairs and community relations specialist, guides the tour through both installations and describes the facilities and areas that comprise the U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach community.

“The tours are very popular with Ansbach residents and always fully booked with a long waiting list,” said Sowders.

These facilities include quality-of-life locations such as the fitness center, bowling center, child care facilities, Welcome Center, Post Exchange, Commissary and Army Lodging, as well as education, medical, dental, financial, dining, housing, sports and training areas.

“The tour gives Ansbach residents a great chance to catch a glimpse of everyday life for Americans in Germany,” said Sowders. “They are often surprised how different things are from what they expected.”
