Residents and visitors to our garrison are going to see something very new over the next few months: Litfaßsäulen!

You’ve probably seen these everywhere in Germany, but never knew what they were. Litfaßsäulen are the tall, cylindrical advertising columns seen all across Europe.

As part of the Ansbach Area Develop Plan, the Real Property Vision Plan and Ansbach 2020, the Directorate of Public Works is installing 14 Litfaßsäulen in various locations around the garrison.

In addition to serving their purpose – to allow individuals and organizations to advertise goods, services and events, they will all be numbered and a different color. As a result, individuals will be able to use these as landmarks.

For example, Litfaßsäule Nr. 4 will be orange and located on the grass between the Katterbach Fitness Center and the Dining Facility. When a newcomer asks, “Hey, where’s the gym?” you could respond, “Easy! It’s just across the street from Litfaßsäule Number 4 – the orange one. I’ll meet you there!”

So, be on the lookout!
