Parting with bulk household items

For Soldiers and Families who are departing, as you PCS to your next assignment, please keep USAG Ansbach clean and presentable for other community members. Please dispose of your trash and recyclables properly. The Directorate of Public Works is working on expanding the hours of the recycling centers, and on a plan for increased capacity for bulk trash pickup. Recycling is an individual responsibility. For details, visit USAG Ansbach Recycling Information.

If you live off post within the Ansbach community, you may drop off bulk household items at the Wertstoffhof, 91522 Ansbach, Adalbert-Pilipp-Strasse 48. The facility’s hours of operation are Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The Wertstoffhof is closed Sundays and Mondays. On Thursdays from 1 p.m. until closing and on Saturdays, the Wertstoffhof accepts special and hazardous waste, i.e., paint, etc. To reach them, call 0981-977-80-820. For residents of Bad Winsheim and Neudstadt a.d. Aisch communities, please contact your landlord for disposal of bulk items.

The Area Support Team is responsible for ensuring bulk items are picked up for on post housing the first Monday of each month. A bulk item is something too big to fit in a standard car, this does not include t.v.s or household trash. Immediate Bulk pickup may be coordinated by contacting the Area Support Teams between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the numbers below:

Katterbach Area Support Team: Commercial: 09802-83-2267 or DSN: 467-2267
Storck Barracks Support Team: Commercial: 09841-83-4515 or DSN: 467-4515

Additionally, there are two nonprofit organizations in the Ansbach area (similar to Goodwill in the U.S.), that take items that are in good condition. They both employ people who were unemployed before, and one of them helps young people with special needs get into the job market.

You can donate clothes, dishes, other household items, toys, lamps, school supplies, backpacks, books, furniture (for bigger pieces of furniture, contact them before drop-off), and a lot of other items that are in good condition.

The best way to get there and to find parking is from the parking area at the far side of the stream across the street from the Brueckencenter shopping mall (off the bridge at the street Kasernendamm down to the parking area, take the first exit to the right and park there. You’ll see the back entrance to “Kolping”).
